GUMS Sub-committees
Mar 05 Added by: Laura on 05/03/2010GUMS sub-committees are a great way to get involved, help run events and programs, and learn some really valuable leadership skills. If you would like to get involved, check out the sub-committees below and how to apply, then send in your applications and come along to the GUMS meetings.
SOCIAL SUB-COMMITTEE
Who heads it? Lauren MacIvor and Ben Winkle, 2010 Social Representatives
What are the positions available? There are up to 5 positions available in the social sub-committee. As far as reasonably possible, GUMS will endeavour to get fair representation across all year levels.
What are your responsibilities? Students on the social sub-committee will help with the planning of most of the major GUMS social events, including Scrub-Crawl, post-exam parties, end of year parties, GUMS sports, and more. This does not include the GUMS Annual Medicine Ball.
How to apply? Send an email with your name, student number, position you wish to apply for, and a short paragraph about why you would like to apply for this position to social@gums.org.au. These applications will be reviewed and if there are more than 5 applications, they will be voted on at the GUMS meeting on Wed 24 March, where all GUMS members who attend will hold one vote.
GUMS ANNUAL MEDICINE BALL SUB-COMMITTEE
Who heads it? Lauren MacIvor and Ben Winkle, 2010 Social Representatives
What are the positions available? There are up to 5 positions available in this sub-committee. As far as reasonably possible, GUMS will endeavour to get fair representation across all year levels.
What are your responsibilities? Students on this sub-committee will help with the planning, promotion and running of the GUMS Annual Medicine Ball. It is expected that you will attend the Medicine Ball and help out on the night. You are also expected to have loads of fun at the event!

These applications will be reviewed and if there are more than 5 applications, they will be voted on at the GUMS meeting on Wed 24 March, where all GUMS members who attend will hold one vote.
GRADUATION SUB-COMMITTEE
Who heads it? Lauren MacIvor and Ben Winkle, 2010 Social Representatives
What are the positions available? There are up to 5 positions available in this sub-committee. All students must be in Year 4 of the course.
What are your responsibilities? Students on this sub-committee will help with the planning, promotion and running of the GUMS Graduation Dinner, and will liaise with other organisations planning graduation events.
How to apply? Send an email with your name, student number, position you wish to apply for, and a short paragraph about why you would like to apply for this position to social@gums.org.au. These applications will be reviewed and if there are more than 5 applications, they will be voted on at the GUMS meeting on Wed 24 March, where all GUMS members who attend will hold one vote.
PUBLICATIONS WRITING TEAM
Who heads it? Caitlin Witt, 2010 Publications Officer
What are the positions available? There are no limits to the number of positions available in the GUMS Publications Writing Team.
What are your responsibilities? Students in the Publications Writing Team will be asked to submit articles on any topic that interests them for publication in Murmur and the MRSA Yearbook. Murmur is a quarterly e-publication that will be sent to all GUMS members and the MRSA Yearbook is a magazine given free to all GUMS members and all graduating students.
How to apply? Send an email with your name and student number to publications@gums.org.au. You will be put on an email list and contacted by GUMS about submitting articles and ideas throughout the year. You can sign up to join the Publications Writing Team at any point throughout the year and these positions will not need to be voted on.
