SoM Meeting Report
Feb 24 Added by: Laura Stitz (president@gums.org.au) on 24/02/2010The first School of Medicine meeting for 2010 was held on Wednesday 24 February. There were only a small number of topics discussed, including rural placements and a Griffith University review of the School of Medicine.
The School is planning to move forward into providing more rural medicine opportunities for students. This is being supported by QLD Health. The School is pursuing HWA funding for rural placements and the decision from HWA is pending. The School is also creating a paid position for a Rural Health Director, so there will be a dedicated staff member to coordinate rural health opportunities.
Griffith University will soon be conducting a review on the School of Medicine. This will be similar to the reviews conducted be the AMC for accreditation. The Griffith Uni Review Committee will probably want to speak to SoM staff and students as part of their review.
If you have any feedback that you would like taken to the School committees, please email president@gums.org.au.
